About Rowan Hunter

Mr Rowan Hunter is an experienced English teacher, IELTS tutor, teacher trainer and manager who has been teaching since 1988. He has taught in New Zealand, Spain, Hong Kong, and was an IELTS examiner for the British Council in Taiwan. He is the Senior Teacher in SpeakEnglishWrite and teaches business English, IELTS preparation, primary and secondary school interview preparation as well as IB English and English Literature to students of all ages.

 

Language Testing at Taiwan National University

Rowan graduated with an MA in History from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland in 1988. Shortly after he moved to teach general and business English in Spain. In 1998 he received a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults from the Royal Society of Arts & Cambridge University (RSA Cambridge CTEFLA). In 2001 Rowan worked at the Language Training and Testing Institute at Taiwan National University.

 

British Council – IELTS Tutor & IELTS Examiner

While teaching at Taiwan National University, Rowan was also a BULATS and IELTS tutor. He was also an UCLES and IELTS Examiner for the British Council. In 2002, Rowan moved to New Zealand for a year where he taught academic English at a leading institute. He returned to Taiwan in 2003 to become the Director of Studies for an international language centre in Taipei. There he developed and managed courses and classes while being an IELTS tutor and IELTS examiner for the British Council.

 

Corporate & Legal English

In 2007, Rowan became a Corporate Training Manager at a language centre in Hong Kong. Here, he taught corporate and general English students. In Hong Kong he has continued being an IELTS tutor to those who have registered to sit the IELTS exam with the British Council or IDP. Rowan has also produced course materials, and provided benchmarking assessments for Hong Kong students of all levels. Since then, he has completed an LLB degree at Manchester Metropolitan University and HKU. He also recently completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Laws at the University of Hong Kong.
